The drilling industry has experienced many technological improvements over past decades; however, the basic drilling process has remained largely unchanged.
That is, until now.
RDM offers solutions where conventional drilling technology cannot.
RDM challenges the basic principles of conventional drilling. RDM enables drilling of formations with severe pressure anomalies. Operators can use RDM to access reservoirs that until now were considered extremely challenging or even impossible to drill conventionally
One system – several applications
Remote reservoirs
RDM represents substantial potential for pushing present limitations in Extended Reach Drilling (ERD). RDM delivers weight on bit independent of string weight, with a lower incremental and total pressure drop at the end of long horizontal sections.

Mature reservoirs
RDM delivers accurate pressure management and improved well control through closed loop fluid circulation. RDM is therefore especially attractive for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) and Under Balanced Drilling (UBD).

RDM has applications within all drilling environments, from land and offshore. RDM enables operators to extend the drilling reach. MPD and ERD features give access to reserves that would otherwise be inaccessible. Operators are finding the economic and environmental potential of RDM to be extremely attractive.
RDM vs advanced conventional drilling solutions
Despite its simplicity, RDM has several built-in features that make it particularly valuable for challenging and complex well sections. RDM adds value for customers beyond that of conventional advanced drilling systems. Several competitors to Reelwell offer solutions for Extended Reach Drilling, Managed Pressure Drilling and Under Balanced Drilling, but all are based on conventional drilling principles. Through its unique closed loop circulation system, Reelwell addresses all of these applications and ultimately adds a unique telemetry system, a multi gradient system and liner drilling in a single “easy to use” package.
